Gustavo Castelliccio, PH.D. candidate at Georgia Tech, led the therd of the Roberto Rocca Fellows conference Serie in April 2010. He introduced the topic “Crystallographic growth of cracks under cyclic loading”.
This seminar presents an overview of the state-of-the-art of small crack behavior in metals and discuss the main factors that render traditional theories inaccurate. The expected outcomes of this research are better tools to design fatigue resistant materials and improved methodologies to evaluate the initial growth of cracks under fatigue.
